I recently had the pleasure of attending a wonderful workshop run by Kevin Wilson. The day was spent in the beautiful grounds of Glasgow University. Its a venure I have had the pleasure of photographingweddings in on many occasions but it was nice to take time with Kevin working with only natural light and reflectors.

PhotoTraining 4 U Tour

The end of a wonderful week on tour with PhotoTraining4U. I was delighted to be speaking at the Monkey Business 9 Tour hosted by Mark Cleghorn and the team at PT4U.

We took our business skill based tour from Cardiff to Southampton, London to Coventry and back. I was delighted to be asked to talk to fellow pro photographers on the art of selling online. I was able to give them an insight into the tools and marketing tips I use with my solution of choice SmugMug Pro.

Carl Cleghorn captured this little shot of me in action, I think in the process of going through some of my workflow tips with the delegates.

Looking forward to week two of the tour that starts on the 24th September.

Planet Flowers at the National Galleries of Scotland by AMJ Photography

I was recently commissioned by the National Galleries of Scotland to photograph a dinner they were providing for the Edinburgh Convention Bureau. The highlight of the evening has to have been the most amazing table arrangement by the wonderful Planet Flowers.

Very striking and so different. It had everyone talking.

In fact one of the great things about the design was that people were able to talk across the table and not be hidden by flowers.

Kirsty & Scott Wedding Photography at Roman Camp Hotel

Many of you will know that Roman Camp Hotel is a place I love to spend time with my family. We are there every year for Heathers birthday and any other opportunity that we get. When I have the honour of photographing someones wedding there its a real pleasure.

It really is a stunning setting.

Kirsty and Scott made it even more memorable by being just such wonderful and fun people. They had intended on being married by the river but the good old Scottish weather put pay to that. Unflustered things were moved indoors and they both had a very personal and individual humanist ceremony in the library of the Hotel.

Fortunately the weather cleared and we were able to get everyone outside for a lovely big group shot and some fun family formal shots.

We then took Kirsty and Scott for a walk around the beautiful grounds at Roman Camp and captured the icon shots that are going to feature in their wedding album.

Leigh & Neil Wedding Photography at Glenskirlie House Falkirk

Leigh and Neil are two of the happiest people on a normal day but on their wedding day they were just beaming. We had just the best time together at Glenskirlie House. Earlier in the day, after spending time with the girls during there preps, there was a nice surprise for Leigh. Neil had organised her a very nice classic car to take her from her mums house to the ceremony.

Following a very personal and fun Humanist ceremony we had plenty of time for nice relaxed photographs with the families before moving on to create beautiful portraits around the grounds of Glenskirlie.

Pamela & John Wedding Photography at Glenbervie House Falkirk

A relaxed and fun day with Pamela and John at Glenbervie House. They shared the day with their families and closest friends and were blessed with lovely weather. The ceremony was conducted in the splendour of the house and grounds allow us some wonder opportunities for photographs.

Catriona & Stephen Wedding Photography at Norton House

I have decided recently that Norton House has to be very, very close to the top of my list of favourite wedding venues. I get asked a lot if i have a favourite and I tend to avoid answering that one but I do love Norton House.

Catriona and Stephen had a wonderful day and despite last minute changes to have the ceremony indoors everything was very relaxed and everyone just had the best time.

Getting married in such a beautiful place is very special but these guys could have got married anywhere and had a great time. Very much in love and two wonderful families to spend the day with.

Monday night was the Scottish MPA Awards for 2011. It was the completion of what had been a fantastic weekend for myself. I was delighted and very proud to have won an Award of Merit for one of my portraits during the ceremony.

We had been treated, earlier in the day, to the most wonderful seminar by the one and only Andy Earl. Andy is probably in of the few photographers in the world who has an image in everyone’s home. He has shot Album covers and Magazine covers of everyone who is anyone.
His seminar took us on a trip from his early days after college right up to his present day work with some of the biggest stars, sports personalities and celebrities in the world. His opener was the video he shot for The Rolling Stones. Like a Rolling Stone video was put together using over 12000 still images he shot over 5 days. When you watch the video it is hard to believe it was shot in 1995 pre digital.
He showed us images and told anecdotes of shoots with Johnny Cash, Prince, Madonna, Courtney Love, REM, Pink Floyd and Robbie Williams to name but a few.

However for me personally there was one moment of the weekend that stands out for me. All the entries for the MPA Awards were on exhibition in the hall. Andy had taken the time to go around the exhibition and look at the images. He spent a bit of time during his seminar talking about the photographic industry and photography in general. At one point he was talking about (and I paraphrase) how a good photograph is about capturing the moment, the telling a story. He then mentioned a photograph in the exhibition that he loved as, for him, it encapsulated the elements he loved in a photograph. As he described the image I was very excited as I realised it was one of my images he was talking about. It was the highlight of my weekend to have Andy Earl standing in front of the best photographers in Scotland and talking about my image I think you can tell I am pretty chuffed.

But better was to come because Andy had taken the time to write a lovely comment and sign the back of the image. Yes think that will be getting put up on a wall Thanks Andy.
